Education
The Last Egret
In 2012, the Bergeron family, Wells Fargo, and The Batchelor Foundation came together to
inspire the next generation, donating 22,000 copies of The Last Egret to every 4th grader in
Broward County Public Schools. 'The Last Egret gives teachers the opportunity for innovative
and interdisciplinary instruction,' said Broward School Board member Robin Bartleman. Today,
the Bergeron Everglades Foundation continues this mission, ensuring students have access to
books and engaging presentations by the book’s founder, Harvey Oyer III, to deepen their
connection to Florida’s rich environmental and cultural history.
Youth Leadership Broward
For the last decade the Bergeron family has hosted Youth Leadership Broward's Environmental Day.
In an extraordinary exploration of Florida's unique ecosystems, Youth Leadership Broward
participants embark on an enlightening Environmental Day that spans from the lush Sawgrass
prairies of the Everglades to the vibrant Seagrass beds of our marine environment.
Sawgrass to Seagrass
“The journey of water is the life of Florida – from sawgrass to seagrass, it’s all important.”
– Alligator Ron Bergeron
Our Sawgrass to Seagrass initiative was created by our founder, Alligator Ron and is dedicated to preserving this vital connection, ensuring clean water and thriving ecosystems for wildlife and communities alike. Join us in safeguarding the flow that sustains Florida’s unique wetland paradise!
